The summery scent of France’s Mediterranean coast must be in the genes of the petite sirah in Rutherglen (15 percent of this blend with sirah). The blueberry and blackberry flavors hold a gamey note that adds character to an otherwise soft and gentle red. Great for picnics with rustic paté and sausages.

Firm in texture, with a gamy edge to the dark plum flavors. Shiraz and Petite Sirah. Drink now.

Deep ruby. Roasted coffee and dark berries on the nose, with hints of tar and smoke. Juicy and round in the mouth, showing fresh dark berry and mocha flavors. Round, supple and gently tannic on the finish.

The dark tone of this wine brings black plums and pomegranates to mind, its earthy tannins rebounding with an elasticity that will meld with roast lamb. Simple and juicy, this blend of shiraz with petite sirah (15 percent) has a lively structure and impressive freshness. Buy it by the case.
