Rutherglen Estates Red Rutherglen 2004

External Review by Premier Wine & Spirits:

The summery scent of Franceandrsquo;s Mediterranean coast must be in the genes of the petite sirah in Rutherglen (15 percent of this blend with sirah). The blueberry and blackberry flavors hold a gamey note that adds character to an otherwise soft and gentle red. Great for picnics with rustic patandeacute; and sausages.

Bright ruby. Pure, vibrant and expressive on the nose, with blackberry, blueberry and dark plum aromas complemented by subtle spice notes. Fat, supple and rich, with strong candied raspberry fruit supported by sturdy tannins. A dense, flavor-packed wine that offers very good value.

Deep ruby. Roasted coffee and dark berries on the nose, with hints of tar and smoke. Juicy and round in the mouth, showing fresh dark berry and mocha flavors. Round, supple and gently tannic on the finish.

Firm in texture, with a gamy edge to the dark plum flavors. Shiraz and Petite Sirah. Drink now.

The dark tone of this wine brings black plums and pomegranates to mind, its earthy tannins rebounding with an elasticity that will meld with roast lamb. Simple and juicy, this blend of shiraz with petite sirah (15 percent) has a lively structure and impressive freshness. Buy it by the case.
