Rustenberg Stellenbosch John X Merriman(2002)

"Red Wine Bordeaux Blends by Rustenberg from South Africa. A multi-layered, and very complex wine. Heady aromas and flavors of ripe red fruit are seamlessly inter-woven with cloves, cassis, white pepper and spice. Rich and round, like liquid velvet in the mouth. Epic finish, with fine, elegant tannins. "

Sweet but more oak-dominated aromas of currant, licorice, tar and chocolate. Sweet, jammy, merlot-dominated flavors of plum and chocolate. This is ripe and in your face, while the 2001 is more complex and multilayered. (According to Badenhorst, February had three times more rain than the norm for this month.) Finishes with dusty, fine tannins.
