This is frankly oaky on the nose but lovely notes of flowers, citrus, Asian pear and bitter melon make a strong showing as well. Rather tight and firm on entry, this shows nice restraint but does not lack richness. There’s real depth here with the acid and mineral elements of the wine keeping things fresh and focused. Leesy oak notes add layers of buffering material with the crisp, ripe sweet apple and tart peach flavors. The finish shows liveliness with good flavor persistence to the fresh, clean fruit that’s supported by a nice base of wood spice. Lovely cut and persistence on the finish even if the oak is hanging in there until the final moment. 91pts

Fresh apple and peach aromas, white grape juice and apricot. Flavors are creamy on the attack, hit the midpalate with a bit of an edge, a hint of citrus and then finish with lots of cream and some sour green apple.

South Africa offers some of the most exciting and enticing white wines around bringing complexity and elegance at tremendous value. This Chardonnay from Rustenberg perhaps my favorite Stellenbosch winery is a fine example. Beautiful fruit entices on the nose with flavors of peach and white plum while rich butter notes suggest at the voluptuous mouthfeel to follow. Oak is restrained leaving burst after burst of fresh chin-drenching fruit and creamy undertones to shine on the luxurious palate. The finish is long and nuanced as apricot star fruit and light hazelnut languish on the tongue. Pair with butternut squash ravioli topped with toasted herbs and pine nuts or hazelnuts to give this gorgeous and sensual wine proper treatment.

Medium straw-yellow. Lovely perfumed lift to the aromas of citrus peel, nectarine, nutty oak, marzipan and spices. Harmonious acidity gives cut to the nectarine, citrus and sexy oak flavors, with a hint of minerality contributing grip. Still a bit youthfully tight but seems a bit more showy early on than previous vintages. Finishes subtle and long. This was aged in 40% new and 60% one-year-old French oak for a year.

Beautiful mineral notes and wonderful oak integration. The aromas have Burgundian characters of flint peaches lime and some nuttiness while the palate is elegant with loads of finesse that gives it length and freshness.
