Rust En Verde Cabernet 2001

External Review by Premium Wine & Spirits:

Shows serious concentration to its streamlined cassis, brier and currant flavors, framed by suave toast and mineral notes. The flavors really glide on the persistent finish. As good as I've had from the region, and back on form after the subpar '97. Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot. Drink now through 2004.

For 315 years Rust en Vrede has stood peacefully among the vineyards of Stellenbosch. Through centuries there were periods when wine was produced, but for the last 32 years our family have specialized in producing only red wine with the focus on Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot. Many accolades have been bestowed upon the estate and some of the more memorable were when Rust en Vrede was chosen by President Nelson Mandela to be served at the Nobel Peace Prize dinner, hosting the King and Queen of Denmark for a lunch with my family at the Manor House, and when Rust en Vrede was nominated as the first South African red wine in the Top 100 Wines of the World. This honour was repeated for four consecutive years. Today Rust en Vrede continues to be a fine example of what Stellenbosch is all about and we will strive to be a driving force in promoting our wines, our region and ultimately our country. You are always welcome at Rust en Vrede and on behalf of my family and colleagues, we are looking forward to your visit. Read less

Offers lots of juicy blackberry, black currant and briar flavors supported by tar, spice, bramble and dark chocolate notes. Despite its dark profile, it's vibrant and open through the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot.

Terrific juice, pure and driven, with red and black currant, cassis, bittersweet chocolate, graphite and espresso flavors. Serious depth, with the fruit coursing through the finish despite its youthful tightness. A classy wine. Cellar. Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot. Best from 2004 through 2008.

Dark red. Ripe-verging-on-roasted aromas of spiced plum, red currant, cigar box, and spice cake. Sweet, supple and stuffed with fruit; dense, silky and suave, with impressive intensity. Enticing notes of plum, currant, tobacco and mint. The juicy, long finish really grips the palate.
