The estatersquo;s 2006 Modus (50% Sangiovese, 25% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon) is a round, supple wine with good intensity and balance in its jammy dark fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2009ndash;2013.
Ruffinorsquo;s Modus (a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet and Merlot) boasts thick extraction in the form of chocolate fudge and cherry candy. Lighter tones of apple skin and green herbs pick up the rear. Itrsquo;s on the ripe side with prune-like flavors; drink now.
The 2004 Modus (50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot) presents a layered texture along with suggestions of smoke, licorice and dark cherries supported by an underlying note of minerality. It offers excellent balance if not much complexity. Anticipated maturity: 2008ndash;2019.
The estatersquo;s 2005 Modus is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It, too, offers masses of ripe, dark fruit with pretty Sangiovese aromatics that emerge from its full-bodied frame. This internationally-styled wine is technically well made and pleasing but ideally it could offer a more distinctive personality. Anticipated maturity: 2009ndash;2015.
This is an opulent, dense and well-priced blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from Tuscany with rich aromas of black fruit, spice, chocolate, leather and pipe tobacco. You could pair this pretty wine with red meat or oven-roasted pasta.
This red is phenomenal on the nose, with blueberry, light toasty oak, coffee and sweet tobacco. The palate is full and utterly captivating, with its combination of fruit and very subtle, silky tannins. Goes on and on. Best after 2014.
A black sangiovese-based blend (mixed with 25 percent cabernet sauvignon and 25 percent merlot), this is as tough as a young brunello. The tannins are as black as coal, with enough red fruit underneath to carry the wine as it ages. An impressive 2003 for the cellar.
Color: Ruby red with garnet hues. Aroma: Very complex and inviting with intense mature fruit (cherries, small red and black berries, plums) accompanied by hints of spices, sweet tobacco, toasted wood, and refined ethereal notes on the finish. Tasting profile: Full-bodied and very well-balanced with a perfect union of the Sangiovese, the Merlot, and the Cabernet. Each grape adds distinct varietal traits to the taste. The impressive amount of silky tannins and the full, fruity character contribute to the rich texture and the aromatic persistence is long lingering with hints of vanilla and small red berries.
