What to Expect

Sangiovese's claim to fame is its role as the heart of Chianti, Brunello and many Super Tuscan wines though it is gaining ground as a varietal wine around the globe. When grown in a suitable location the grape's soft tannins, succulent acidity and moderately intense cherry and herb flavors make Sangiovese very easy to drink as well as supremely versatile at the dinner table.

Winemakers Notes

Fonterutoli's flagship wine and is the most representative of the estate's production. This wine's deep roots in the territory represents a point of reference for the whole of Chianti Classico.
Very concentrated ruby-purple in color. Complex notes of elegant fruit along with the vanilla and toasty oak. The power and controlled elegance of Sangiovese, an enviable freshness and a natural balance and harmony.

The ripe, luscious nose shows intriguing hints of violets and iris, berry fruit, chocolate and smoke. In the mouth, it is rich, complex and elegant, with excellent fruit-acid balance and remarkable depth and length. The overriding impression is of velvety richness. Ruffino Riserva Ducale Gold is a vino di meditazione, a wine so compelling that it deserves the singular attention of the taster, undistracted by food. But, it is also an excellent wine to accompany richly flavored foods such as roasts and game.
