Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

This wine did follow some pretty dynamite wines from earlier in the night so I will try to be fair. The syrah really beefs up this Sangiovese blend adding some muscle and a touch of spice. Getting better after an hour. Lots of cedar, leather, and dense cherry notes on the nose. These follow onto the palate, with the oak presence being more present than I generally like. As it mellows, the rich cherry fruit is coming forward. Decent value for $15.

At the palate it is coherent with the olfaction. Sensations of fragrant fresh fruit are accompanied by steady yet gentle tannins, that exalt enjoyable spicy hints. The whole tasting sensation is enriched by a persistent finish, that is incredibly fresh and pleasantly mineral and presents an aftertaste with fascinating notes of rosemary.

Winemaker Notes - 60% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot, 20% Syrah. Ruby red with violet reflections. The bouquet is complex and intense, with notes of cassis, cherry jam, plums and chocolate. It denotes very clean flavors of tobacco, vanilla, eucalyptus and spice. These pleasant spicy notes displayed by the Syrah complement the red and black fruit and aromatic herbs, shown by Sangiovese, and the roundness typical of Merlot. On the palate, this wine is well bodied, with initial fruit forward notes, unfolding into round and elegant tannins. The finish is pleasantly refined, showing notes of ripe fruit together with aromas of vanilla and balsamic herbs.
