Soft on the nose with gentle notes of leather and earth, a touch of woodsy spice, a touch of violet a little smoke and some dark cherry tones. Big fruit up front backed by solid, integrated acidity with very polished tannins give this a round, pleasant mouthfeel, yet without not much complexity or depth, A bit diffuse on the mid-palate with nice flavors of raspberry/black raspberry, a touch of earth, mint and leather, but this has the feel of not trying hard enough but it’s still hard to fault it too much. 87pts

Dark attractive purple colour with a nice nose, cherries, spice, meaty, the wine smelt "hot". The palate was soft, but soft like it had been sat out for 3 days (it hadn't!), nice tannins, smooth and pleasant, a hot little ending and a little vegetal too and no real hold on the finish. Started well, but lost its way on the palate.

One of the most classic Sangioveses to date. Very elegant and delicate wild berry taste with a pinch of light spice. Subtle at first but any amazing pair with any meaty Italian red sauce. Must try.

Potpourri, dark red fruit and leather on the nose. Raspberry fruit on the palette and a bit of copper penny. Tobacco on the finish.

A bit of a hot nose, with cherries and leather. Good acidity, like most Italian wines, paired well with salami, cheese and salad. Well balanced, decent fruits - red berries and plums. Some subtle earthiness, but its a fairly fruit forward and simple wine.

Bright cherry and blackberry aromas, with a berry and cherry palate along with plush tannins and a herbal aftertaste. Good, but a tad overpriced.

A glorious blend of youth and maturity, expressing ripe fruit aromas and tastes, as well as characteristics such as leather and cedar, developed during aging. Its velvety texture, full body and complexity mark it as a truly superior Chianti Classico Riserva.

Aromas of leather and cedar, with full body and long, complex flavors.

Fruity, soothing and well-balanced, the taste reveals velvety tannins and a enjoyable spicy sensation. The ageing in oak enriches the fruity core with hints of cacao and cloves. The long-lingering aftertaste adds intriguing notes of rosemary and figs.

Blueberry and mineral aromas, with hints of new wood. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a rich core of raspberry fruit and lemony acidity. Best after 2009.

Lean but polished, with a narrow band of flavors. Picks up on the finish enough to suggest it might be best after 1995.

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Tasting Notes Ruby red with garnet hues. The bouquet is typical for Chianti Classico wines with inviting floral and fruity notes intertwining with the spicy touch deriving from the long ageing period in oak barrels. Notes of plums and cherries are followed by hints of sweet tobacco and cocoa, creating an elegant and long-lasting bouquet. The taste is very well-balanced and features all the virtues of oak aged Sangiovese. The tannins are sweet and velvety, the acidity is inviting and fragrant and the fruity notes lead towards a long, delicious aftertaste of berry fruits and cassis. Elegant and medium-bodied, the palate is characterised by sweet notes of mature fruit which blend beautifully with the soft tannins and the acidity. The after-taste is typical for Sangiovese with hints of hazelnuts and leather.
