What to Expect

Merlot has gotten a bad rap as of late but there is no denying the wine's appeal. Packed with deep, dark berry fruit and nuanced hints of cocoa, herb and earth with a soft structure. Its velvety texture makes Merlot instantly appealing and an obvious alternative to similar, more tannic Bordeaux varieties.

WINEMAKER NOTES
*One of very few Merlots produced from this rugged, mountainous region of Napa Valley. For the past several years our Merlot has been incredibly popular in restaurants. We think we might know why: Growing Merlot organically on our steep hillsides makes for a wine of especially lively character, well suited to enjoy with today’s adventurous culinary styles and rich flavors.

*Though American Merlot is often considered a soft, velvety wine, we endeavor to take that predictable character and read more...notch it up several levels into more intriguing territory. The result: Merlot for Cab drinkers! This wine is bursting with juicy, mountain flavors of cherry, boysenberry and spice. Smooth tannins yield to an incredibly long-lingering finish of cassis, mint and chocolate flavors. The color is bright ruby red and the gentle aromas speak of vanilla, caramel and plums. For longtime fans of
Rubissow-Sargent Merlot this wine delivers on past expectations, while also making its own unique statement.

*Though drinking nicely now, this wine will continue to improve through 2007. Serve with spicy lamb dishes, roast pork, Spanish Manchego cheese or wild mushroom-parmesan pizza!
