Rubicon Estate / Niebaum-Coppola Cabernet Sauvignon Cask(2003)

The 2003 growing season in Rutheford commenced with spring rain and cool temperatures, creating a naturally low yield. Summer temperatures were relatively moderate, but autumn arrived with added warmth to transform the vineyards and deliver a winning vintage. The three-week stretch of 90 degree temperatures in October pushed the grapes into full ripeness, resulting in beautifully developed tannins and intensely flavored fruit.

I tried this wine at the tasting at the Niebaum Coppola estate in Napa, and I instantly fell in love with it. It has a perfect combination of toastiness and fruit and is velvetty smooth in texture. Too expensive for any-day drinking but definitely a solid bet for a very special occasion!
