Royal Tokaji Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos Red Label 2008
This wine has a very complex aroma with hints of apricots and spice. The palate is dominated by tropical fruits, lime and grapefruit in particular and the overwhelming sensation is one of freshness. The finish lingers seductively. Serve at 10-12 C. Grape varieties: Predominantly Furmint and Harslevelu grape varieties, with a small percentage of Muscat. Alcohol 11.5%. Residual sugar: 155.5 g/l.
A glorious example of Tokaji, and it wont break the bank. The finish lasts a good 15+ minutes and reminds me of Granny Smith apple pie. Seek this out!
Delicious honey and awesome taste. Great dessert wine.
Smokey honey nose. Deep brown. Citric sweetness. Raisin. Compared to 2001 Chateau D'Yquem: less tropical, more leather, more ice-winey. Absolutely stunning.

Nearly every discussion of the prestigious wines of Hungary includes Tokaji, the country's famed dessert wine. This is a stunningly well priced bottle full of apricots and peaches on the palate. It's sweet, but it has bright acidity to balance out its richness. Give it a light chill and enjoy it with Stilton, nuts, and salty fare - or just be a purist and enjoy it for everything it is on its own.
