Royal Tokaji 5 Puttonyos Blue Label 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

*Silver Medal - International Wine Challenge 2012* *Silver Outstanding Medal - International Wine & Spirit Competition 2012* Hungary’s most notable wine is Tokaji with 400 years of history and royal patronage. After the fall of Communism in 1989 the region experienced a surge of interest from both native and foreign investors; one such company was The Royal Tokaji Wine Company. This Anglo-Hungarian Consortium was founded in 1990 and is one of the most defining wineries in Tokaji. The winery is based in the town of Mad, 240km north-east of Budapest and focuses on producing single-vineyard wines. The winemaker Karoly Ats is acknowledged as one of the best in the region. He combines traditional techniques with modern technology to create the award-winning Royal Tokaji range of wines. Medium gold in colour this wine has a fine fresh bouquet of orange peel and flowers. On the palate it has an excellent balance, the sweetness being offset by fine acidity. Tropical fruits and orange flavours finish the wine; giving it great length. This fruity wine goes superbly with rich foods, such as Foie Gras, blue cheese and roast pork.
