What to Expect

The classic Bordeaux blends rely on either Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon for the bulk of the wine with additions of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec helping to add complexity, color, body and structure to the finished wine.

Winemakers Notes

Full of energy, the wine will have a very long life. It has good acidity (the grapes
ripened under cooler weather conditions), intense color/flavors (volcanic soil) and
soft and sweet tannins (balanced vines and low yields). The 2005 Proprietary Red
Wine expresses flavors of blackberry, licorice, espresso beans and Asian spices.
Lush and rich in the attack, the wine carries on with harmony and depth finishing
with ripe, soft tannins and aromas of black tea, bacon, smoke and licorice. It’s
tasting great right now. Enjoy the beautiful fruit today read more...

Reviews

The Soda Canyon vineyards were planned by Helen Turley and John Pina. It's easy to call them 'perfect' from a vineyard management stand point. The wine has been made by Philippe Melka who undeniably has a gift with California wines by allowing their opulence to shine while offering the perfect balance in French Oak. The result at Roy Estate was 95pts from Parker; and for once a great wine that will continue to be great for many years to come.

(THIS PRE-SELL ARRIVES WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF YOUR ORDER.) - 95 pts from Robert Parker!! - "This 17-acre vineyard on the eastern side of Napa is owned by Charles and Shirley Roy. Located in what is known as the Soda Canyon area, the vineyard was planted under the direction of Helen Turley, but todays winemaker is Philippe Melka. They have two wines in their cuvee, a Bordeaux blend and, of course, their Cabernet Sauvignon. My favorite of the quartet of wines I tasted is the 2005 Proprietary Red, a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon and 17% Merlot (1,500 cases produced). Of course, Soda Canyon is a southern read more...

They have two wines in their cuvee, a Bordeaux blend and, of course, their Cabernet Sauvignon. My favorite of the quartet of wines I tasted is the 2005 Proprietary Red, a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and 7% Petite Verdot (1,500 cases produced). Of course, Soda Canyon is a southern Napa region and cool, much like its neighbor read more...
