I like pure cabernet in general, and dont like them mixed usually, but this blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot is one of the finest i have had in the below $50 range. (I usually dont go above that price range, so pardon me) . It has a very Smooth, Rich and distinctive flavor. The maker suggests, The 2005 vintage has aromas of vanilla, ripe cherry and cinnamon, with flavors of raspberry jam, cocoa and red fruit. I admit my palate is not sophisticated enough to sense each of these ingredients while tasting, but in reverse-engineering, i like most of these ingredients, which is why I might have ended up liking the end result. So if you like the above ingredients, there is a good chance you will like it as well. In short, if you are a Cabernet lover, and are looking for a smooth cabernet, this is a great buy. I've had guests have a second look at that bottle. :-)

Nothing special about this wine. It's a pretty standard cab except for the nose, which reminded me slightly of beets. Go figure.

A very hot nose and an alcoholic mouth too. Some nice fruits, dark deep cherry and blackberry. A nice finish on integrated tannins.

Winemaker’s Notes: Roth Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is made from select vineyard sites within the southernmost hillsides of the Alexander Valley. This wine is a true reflection of our passion for the noble Cabernet grape. Our 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is dark in color with complex aromas of black cherry, cassis, and dark chocolate. Rich and smooth on the palate, this Cabernet displays layered flavors of cherry, baking spices, black pepper, and sweet oak with a hint of chocolate. Supple tannins in this full-bodied Cabernet are beautifully accented by a balanced acidity that sets the stage for the bold, lengthy finish. Winery Background: Roth Estate is committed to crafting full-flavored wines grown on the best Sonoma County vineyard sites. Beginning in 2001, Roth started producing Cabernet Sauvignon blends from hillside locations in the famed Alexander Valley. A decade later the winery expanded to include Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot and also ventured west toward the Sonoma Coast for cool climate sites for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. A state-of-the-art winemaking facility, tasting room and caves are located in Healdsburg. 2015 Vintage: 2015 was warm and dry in the Alexander Valley. Yields were down slightly, but the fruit was high quality and concentrated. The grapes were harvested October 10th to October 14th, 2015 at optimum maturity. Then it was fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks where the fruit was cold-soaked and pumped over once a day for several days. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was transferred to barrel and stirred weekly until malolactic fermentation was complete. It was aged in French, Hungarian and American oak (30% new) for 16 months prior to bottling. Composition: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon 3% Petit Verdot 2% Merlot 2% Malbec 2% Syrah 1% Petite Sirah Titratable Acidity: 0.59 g/100mL pH: 3.82 Alcohol by Volume: 15.5%

There is plenty of red cherry and currant in this Cab, blended with a quarter’s worth of Merlot, Malbec, Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot. The thin, balanced layers also recall anise and vanilla.

Dark ruby. Blackberry, cherry liqueur and pipe tobacco on the nose, with an herbal note emerging with aeration. Offers sappy dark fruit flavors that are firmed by tangy acidity and a touch of black pepper. Finishes on a warm note, with subtle sweetness, a hint of maple and no obvious tannins.
