The "Fiesole" vineyard is situated opposite the farmhouse of the same name where we have our offices and winery. This is the farm's oldest vineyard, situated 350 metres north-east of Montalcino. The grapes from this vineyard are usually used to produce our Brunello di Montalcino. Nearby we find the "Poderuccio" vineyard. It is situated at 350 metres above sea-level. These grapes are also used to produce our Brunello di Montalcino. In 1986 we bought Cerretalto, a magical place. It is a natural amphitheatre near the Asso river at a height which varies between 250 and 300 metres above sea-level. Its position to the east of Montalcino means that it has a unique and unmistakable "Terroir". On the opposite side of Montalcino to the south-east, near Castelnuovo dell'Abate we find the "Pietradonice"vineyard. The earth, the position, the microclimate, the choice of clones, the grafting and a well organised vineyard all help to produce great grapes which improve each year. Il terreno, l'esposizione, il microclima, la scelta dei cloni, portainnesti, sesto di impianto ci stanno dando delle grandi uve ogni anno migliori. In a single word - magnificent. PLast but not least, thanks to its fine landscape and uncontaminated nature is the "Cetine" vineyard. Here we have 25 hectares facing south south-east on a magical hillside near Sant'Angelo in Colle. The thyme and other plants typical of the Mediterranean scrub and the extreme drop in temperature at night contribute to give us fruit of incredible quality. Every year this Sangiovese gives us the hope and strength to become even better. Fantastic and magic. . Read less

I bought this bottle of wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/123067 for £9.Montalcino is an Italian DOC created in 1984,although there has been viticulture here for centuries, for red wines made of the sangiovese grape from the area around the town of Brunello in Tuscany [the same area as for the Brunello di Montalcino but only needing 6 months as opposed to 2 years in oak]. I served my bottle at a dinner party I hosted at the weekend as the main course was an Italian pasta dish. It is a dark and full-bodied wine with some fairly tart blackcurrant, blackberry and bramble style fruit. It is noticably dry with a spicy finish. I liked it and it was a good match for the pasta.

I tasted the 2009 Rosso di Casanova di Neri from tank just before it was scheduled to be bottled. The wine shows gorgeous juiciness and richness with a round harmonious personality that captures the essence of the house style. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015. --- AG Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

Balanced and refined. Berry, tobacco and mineral aromas last for minutes on the palate. Full-bodied, with lots of silky tannins. A beauty.

The 2000 Rosso di Montalcino is an attractive, well-made, straightforward effort with good elegance, some flesh, and a cedary, tobacco, red currant, and cherry-scented nose. It requires consumption over the next 1-2 years.

A well-balanced, fresh red, with berry, flowers and spice character. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a tangy fresh finish. Drink now.

An elegant, reserved red, with berry, mineral and sous-bois character. Medium-bodied, with very fine tannins and a medium, fresh finish. Nicely done. Drink now through 2004.

Medium-deep ruby. Deep, expressive aromas of black cherry, raspberry, sweet spices and balsamic vinegar. Then sweet, broad and rich, combining very ripe red and black fruits with a healthy dollop of sweet chocolatey oak and a hint of coffee liqueur. The long finish features velvety tannins and a balsamic edge as well as a lingering sweet black cherry flavor. On a past visit to this estate, owner Giacomo Neri told me he thinks Rosso di Montalcino must be a wine made from sangiovese and to be drunk young. "In my view," he added, "it's a mistake to try to turn it into a small Brunello." He makes quite a bit of Rosso, as ten hectares of vines are devoted entirely to Rosso, but the total amount of Rosso di Montalcino he offers each year also contains a good proportion of declassified Brunello.
