The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Combottes has a more complex nuanced bouquet than the Cherbaudes with attractive forest floor/sous-bois scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a chewy entry. Plenty of matiere here with a long raspberry and mineral finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. This Combottes has a nice swagger about it

There is enough reduction present to suppress the fruit but not so much as to completely hide the floral character lurking in the background. There is good punch and detail to the refined middle weight flavors that exude a fine minerality on the austere and mildly edgy finish that is probably due to the abundant gas. My predicted range offers the benefit of the doubt in this regard. 2022+ Burghound.

Here one finds the classic elegance of a fine Combottes with its airy cool and almost lacy red berry fruit nose nuanced by obvious minerality and a hint of underbrush that complements the rich full sweet and mouth coating medium weight flavors that are supported by a vibrant intense and driving finish. Here too the balance is impeccable. Burghound.
