Rossignol Trapet Domaine Gevrey Chambertin Clos Prieur Pinot Noir Wine 2012

External Review by JJ Buckley Fine Wines:

The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Prieur has a more exotic generous bouquet than the other premier crus from Rossignol-Trapet with candied orange peel interlacing the red cherry profile. The palate is sweet and generous quite fleshy in the mouth but then turning more linear and structured towards the saline-tinged finish. This is another finely made wine. - Neal Martin Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

As is usually the case this is aromatically more elegant than the Corbeaux with its pretty and well-layered nose of red currant plum earth and spice hints. The mouth feel is notably finer as well with a hint of minerality adding lift to the middle weight flavors that possess more fine-grained tannins on the mildly austere well-balanced and lingering finish. An understated wine of relative refinement. 2022+ Burghound.

The 2012 Clos Prieur was also just a touch reduced at the time of my visit so perhaps I am underrating this wine a touch as well. It is certainly very pure and deep under its gentle note of reduction and may even have a touch more depth in the mid-palate than the stunning Corbeaux! The bouquet is a lovely black fruity m

A brooding and altogether reticent nose of dark berry fruit earth and pungent humus notes gives way to rich concentrated and sleekly muscular flavors that possess fine delineation and punch on the firm long and overtly austere finish. This is significantly more structured than the prior 1ers and will need at least 5 or 6 years to flesh out and 10 to 12 to shed its considerable tannins. Burghound.

A very high-toned nose of strawberry and raspberry aromas is followed by round supple generous and relatively refined even tender middle weight flavors that exude a fine minerality on the firm balanced and lingering finish. This is a Gevrey 1er of finesse. Burghound.
