Rossi Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Made from grapes from a further selection, first in the vineyard and afterward in the winery, this Riserva consists of Sangiovese (90%) and Canaiolo and Colorino (10%). It has excellent potential for aging. This wine is widely distributed on the domestic and international markets.

Castello di Monsanto:
Castello di Monsanto is one of the most respected estates in Tuscany and one of the top producers of traditional Chianti Classico Riserva. Located midway between Florence & Siena, the estate lies on the westernmost edge of the Chianti Classico zone, one of the best areas for Chianti. The estate itself is a landmark, with its distinctive hilltop castle.

The 2008 Chianti Classico Riserva is a very pretty, centered wine. Dark cherries, plums, spices, menthol, cedar, game and tobacco are some of the notes that emerge from the glass. The 2008 is an understated Riserva that impresses for its length, focus and balance. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023. (14% alcohol) Bright dark red. Vibrant, pungent aromas of red berries, minerals and smoky underbrush, plus a somewhat intrusive note of shoe polish. Bright and juicy in the mouth, with smoky red berry, dark plum and licorice flavors. Finishes with youthfully chewy tannins and good length. This will likely evolve and improve with a couple more years in the bottle, but today it lacks the complexity or the sheer in-your-face fruity appeal of the 2008 Chianti to warrant a higher score. ** SOLD OUT **
