Rosenblum Rockpile Rd Zin 2006
External Review by WineExpress.com:
The Rockpile AVA was just granted in 2002 making it one of the newest in California and the main reason the AVA was established is because of the Rock Pile Vineyard. Planted in the mid-1990’s with old clone Zinfandel budwood from the 120 year old St. Peter’s Church vineyard, the Rock Pile Vineyard sits 1,200 feet above Lake Sonoma in the upper Dry Creek Valley. The high altitude of this mountain vineyard allows cooler temperatures as well as direct sunlight unhindered by the valley fog below. The grapes ripen slowly developing robust flavors. The wine is aged 14 months is 60% American and 40% French oak. It shows flavors of blackberry, cherry, campfire smoke, licorice and minerals. It’s ripe and luscious on the palate. Don’t miss this rare Zin while it’s on sale.
