Nice. I didn't think it was as sweet or chocolatey as the tasting notes suggest. What I mostly got was kitchen spices. Overall I would describe it as pretty balanced, and it went nicely with our meal.

I love it! Fruit bomb. Awesome. There's also another level of spice to this that really makes it for me. ::Update:: Went back and tasted again. Wasn't quite as blown away. Maybe it was the different glass or weather??? Still excellent for the price, and I do still really like this wine. Only knocked it down half a glass!

This Petite Sirah is bold, yet elegant. Bringing Carignane into the blend adds a broader and softer dimension to the finished wine, along with a hint of rose petal in the bouquet punctuated with currants, blackberry, pepper and earthy spice. The flavors are of ripe dense blackberries, hints of vanilla, currants, black olives, and exotic spices. While this wine should age from 12 to 20 years, don't miss the opportunity to experience it now.

Wine Tasting NotesThis wine exhibits great color with a bouquet and flavors of ripe blackberries, plums, chocolate, black pepper, violets and spice. Contra Costa will soon be known as the Mecca for Petite Sirah. This wine is amazing both in aromatics and flavors, not to mention the color, which is jet black.

San Francisco Bay, Contra Costa County Vineyards: Bartel-Nichols, North Rose, Madruga-Kightsen, Cecchini, Pato and, Salman Farms Composition: 98% Petite Sirah, 2% Zinfandel Alcohol: 14.8% pH: 3.35 Total Acidity: 0.72g/100ml Barrels: 60% American, 40% French oak Production: 7,475 cases Cellar Practices and Winemaking The individual vineyards were harvested and fermented separately. The wines were aged as separate lots before being blended. To add character and nuance, this wine benefited from Rosenblum Cellars’ cutting edge barrel and yeast programs. Once blended, the wines aged without racking again until bottling. For this wine we applied a very gentle, hands-off approach to the winemaking. We find the less we work on certain wines, the more we get out of them. Winemaker Comments This wine exhibits great color with a bouquet and flavors of ripe blackberries, plums, chocolate, black pepper, violets and spice. Contra Costa will soon be known as the Mecca for Petite Sirah. This wine is amazing both in aromatics and flavors, not to mention the color, which is jet black. The perfect wine for hearty fare such as mixed sausage ragu, barbecue smoked prime rib, leg of lamb on a bed of thyme, or a good old-fashioned pot roast.
