Black in color and tannic power, this fills all that extract with flavor as rich as fig pudding. Itrsquo;s a meaty wine from 80- to 100-year-old vines, to cellar for a decade, then serve with grilled steak.
There are nearly 10,000 cases of the stunning 2004 Petite Sirah Heritage Clone. A dense ruby/purple hue is accompanied by glorious aromas of creme de cassis, vanilla, incense, crushed rocks, blackberries, and smoke. It is a full-bodied, tannic, chewy, rich, pedal-to-the-metal effort with low acidity as well as ripe tannin. The latter two components will make it difficult to resist, but it should age well for 15ndash;20 years.
The 2005 Petite Sirah Heritage Clones is a full-bodied, flavorful, mouthfilling wine offering loads of peppery, blackberry, and cherry fruit, surprising density, a supple texture, and beautiful length and richness. This stunner should drink well for 5ndash;8 years or longer.
Rich, dark blackberry pie, huckleberry syrup and dark chocolate notes on a medium frame with chewy tannins. Wonderfully effusive berry notes arenrsquo;t weighed down by the tannins. Drink now through 2012.
Rosenblum Cellars is somewhat under the radar for top-class Petite Sirah, but they do a very fine job with it. The black/purple-tinged, broodingly primeval looking 2003 Petite Sirah Heritage Clones is a good value for those who love this wild, ageworthy varietal. It possesses sweet, incense-laden, black currant fruit with spice box, licorice, and crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, tannic, and loaded with fruit, this is a long term prospect that needs 2ndash;3 years of bottle age. It should age effortlessly for 15 or more years.
Inky-purple in the glass; the nose is firm, showing blackberry, black cherry and black plum essence. The palate is packed with rich, jammy dark fruit and blueberry compote accented by big, palate-warming tannins and toasty spice. This wine is like a big overstuffed chair, cozy and loveable, with enough support to keep you begging for more. In a word: delicious.
