smooth, easy drinking, I do prefer it a little chilled, good with red meats. Not too powerful but solid flavors

Balmoral is a highly stylized wine, unique among the several old vine South Australian wines on the market today. Its velvety palate structure and rich, expressive fruit have made it an extremely sought-after wine in previous vintages.

Solid and excellent, as it almost always is. Plum fruit dominates, with anise accents; tannins are smooth. Wood is present but subtle mdash; mouthfeel is textured more like clay than oak.

Stylish and aristocratic, smooth and ripe up front, offering brilliant blackberry, cherry, red pepper and spice aromas and flavors, which pick up a solid base of firm tannins as they last and last on the beautifully focused finish. Best from 2005 through 2012.

The 2000 Syrah Balmoral emerges from old McLaren Vale vines. Its deep ruby color is followed by smoky, black currant, and berry fruit offered in a medium-bodied, pinched, but well-endowed style. The vintagersquo;s weakness pokes through, but this remains a competent effort to consume over the next 4ndash;5 years.

Red-ruby. Roasted cassis and cola in the nose; more shiraz than syrah. Then fat and rich in the mouth, with flavors of dark berries and smoke. Distinctly saline but not a peppery style of syrah. Finishes nutty and rich, with big, dusty tannins and lingering sweet oak notes. Nicely lush wine, but not quite vibrant enough for outstanding.
