Rosemount Estate Chardonnay Mudgee Show Reserve 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

The Rosemount Show Reserve wines pay tribute to the great wine regions of Australia and their ability to produce defining examples of celebrated varietals. This range allows us to express the particular regional characteristics of each wine made in the true Rosemount . Crafted from premium parcels of grapes these wines receive additional maturation in the winery cellars, enabling them to develop the distinctive bouquet and rich varietal flavors for which their region is renowned. Mudgee experienced a warm, dry vintage, after a wet spring that promoted good vine growth. Vintage was two to three weeks earlier than usual due to the warm weather, reflected in rich, vibrant fruit. Chardonnay is the standout white variety with the warm weather favorable to the ripe, citrus and grapefruit characters - a hallmark of the region. The nose is very fruit dominant with zesty, citrus aromas and grapefruit notes. Buttery, creamy almost nutty tones add support. This is a dry, almost savory wine, with great texture and mouthfeel. Appealing grapefruit and melon flavors span the palate alongside a suggestion of subtle oak that allows the fruit occupy centre stage. A very refreshing Chardonnay from a good Mudgee vintage.
