Rosa d'Oro Vineyards Primitivo 2011
Primitivo is the Italian Zinfandel grown in the area of Puglia in Southern Italy. They are genetically identical but Primitivo is considered to be more feminine and rustic. We won’t lie though, this is a big wine, full bodied, red berry fruit driven with fine-grained tannins and mineral earthiness, balanced and without overripeness or residual sugar.
keeping with my current theme of baby inspired reviews....what if nero d'avola and zinfandel had a baby? it would be this awesome combo of new world and old world. pair it with ravioli.
Food Pairings for Rosa d'Oro Vineyards Primitivo
Primitivo is Zinfandel's first cousin, and this wine exhibits a lot of delicious ripe red fruit, fine tannins, dried herb and some fresh earth. A bit thinner than Zinfandel, but incredibly tasty with a very long and memorable finish. The 11 months in barrel keeps this wine well in check and there is virtually no heat in the mouth, just a ton of flavor. Low production and an incredibly fair price are also part of the appeal of this wine.
