Root 1 Root 1 Cabernet Sauv 2008
Deep ruby red with intense aromas of red fruits and cassis. Soft notes of plum, blackberry follow, with a hint of vanilla. Abundant flavors of ripe cherries and plums up front highlight balanced acidity, soft tannins and good structure. Full-bodied with a long and concentrated finish accented by fruit and vanilla notes.
While most vineyards around the world are planted on grafted rootstock, estate-grown Root:1 wines are cultivated on original, ungrafted roots, producing outstanding quality wine with pure, fruit flavors and aromas.
Rating 86 Nose fruity oak. Body is lean with a lot of unripe berries. Compared to the previous years not recommendable. But Preice OK. $ 7.99. at Costco after rebate
Earthy and woody scent. Sour berry start. Great mocha finish.
Very high QVR and a drinkable wine with plenty of currant, cherry and a hint of leather and spice. You really can't be disappointed, yet as always with a good value it makes you wonder how much did they actually produce to offer it at this price? Still, very impressed with this Chilean wine from the Colchagua Valley.
I preferred the previous vintage I had, but still think this is a very drinkable cab. I find it to be very soft in tannins, almost to soft for a cab. Not quite enough backbone for me, but something that would go well at a dinner party with cheese, ect.
I loved the 2005 and 2006 so I really wanted to like the 2008 but no such luck - sour berry nose, vinegary, terrible finish. The second day was only marginally better. Tried pairing it with both milk and extra-dark chocolate and neither complimented the wine. I did have some success by pairing it with sharp cheddar cheese which brought out hints of deep, musky mocha. Overall though I wasn't satisfied and won't buy again.
This Cabernet does a good job bringing the terroir of its vinyard through in the nose and flavor profile. The nose has some interesting notes of licorice, rose petal and an earthy sweetness. In the mouth, it has a lot of grip, and less fruit flavors. It's more of an "old world" style Cab.
Not a fan of this vintage (08). Too tart/sour at the start. Broke in the middle and thought it would ramp into a nice finish, but the finish was a bit unpleasant which made it seem really long. I like what Root 1 has done with other offerings, but this just wasn't very good. Maybe several hours decanting would help?

A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from Rapel Valley in Chile. 2008 Root: 1 Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml
A very good value-priced Cab with fresh tomato, herb, black cherry, blackberry and earthy aromas. The palate is healthy and stands up to scrutiny, while the flavors of cassis, berry, chocolate and pepper are correct and more than pleasant. Long and lasting on the finish. The best Root: 1 Cab-to-date.
Ruby-red. Spicy red berry and cherry aromas are complemented by mint, licorice and black cardamom. A fresh, focused midweight, offering sweet raspberry and cherry flavors and good tangy snap. Very lively but could use a bit more heft; the finish is focused, brisk and nicely persistent.
