Root 1 Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
A rich red wine with black currant, mocha and chocolate notes. Root:1 Cabernet Sauvignon is an exceptional match with full-flavored cheeses, pasta with red sauce, steak, ribs, and chocolate. The hot and dry climate of the Colchagua Valley is world renowned for producing concentrated Cabernets of exceptional quality. Root: 1 is known for its elegant, lush, ripe fruit flavors.
While most vineyards around the world are planted on grafted rootstock, estate-grown Root:1 wines are cultivated on original, ungrafted roots, producing outstanding quality wine with pure, fruit flavors and aromas.
Editorial Reviews for Root 1 Cabernet Sauvignon
Oak and earth frame attractive black currant and weedy Cabernet aromas on the nose with lovely tar, grilled beef, and roasted chili nuance. Plump and smooth, showing real polish in the mouth with supple tannins and integrated acids supporting broad black cherry and black currant fruit. the wine shows more complexity on the nose and lacks a little energy in the mouth, but is still very attractive with rich fruit and a supple texture people will love. The finish is short if clean with nice black fruit. 85pts
Four and a half glasses
Surprised by the rich deep flavor for the price. It was $13 at fresh n easy. Buying again!
rich nose of cherries and black currant....elegant attack....pretty light on the palatte for a cab, but has a big lingering finish.
Paired very nicely with duck breast & cherry glaze.
Fruit on the nose that doesn't come through in the taste. Good for everyday. A good cab!
Very smooth and not too dry. I don't normally likes reds but, this is great.

Root:1 refers to the fact that in these vineyards in Chile's Colchagua Valley the grapevines grow on original rootstock. Most grapevines in Europe and the U.S. have been grafted and replanted due to the root louse phylloxera. Original rootstock means deep roots and more complex flavored grapes. Produced by Vina Ventisquero, this Cabernet shows remarkable complexity and character for such a great value wine. Beverage Dynamics scored this wine 95 points saying "From ungrafted of original European rootstock that have never been blighted by phylloxera; bold, rich varietal aromas and flavors in a ripe, mouth-filling, and easy-to-enjoy style; richness, quality and value."
Perfectly ripe grapes yielded a beautifully colored and complex Cabernet that is rich ruby in color with dark cherry, black current, toffee and mocha notes. Silky tannins and good structure lead to a long and complex finish accented with vanilla notes.

A very good value-priced Cab with fresh tomato, herb, black cherry, blackberry and earthy aromas. The palate is healthy and stands up to scrutiny, while the flavors of cassis, berry, chocolate and pepper are correct and more than pleasant. Long and lasting on the finish. The best Root: 1 Cab-to-date.
