Root 1 Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
While most vineyards around the world are planted on grafted rootstock, estate-grown Root:1 wines are cultivated on original, ungrafted roots, producing outstanding quality wine with pure, fruit flavors and aromas.
A very interesting wine, with that "I'm unique so you should try me" type wine. This is a cabernet sauvignon, made in Chili. Its claim to fame is to be the original genotype cabernet, a pre-phyloxera root stock thus claiming to be a true heirloom. Don't expect a Napa or Sonoma Cab, that it is not. But comes close to a more Washington Cab, and reminds me even of some blends. In fact I drank this side by side with a Washington Red, and found some similiarities but the Root 1 was elegantly more smooth and balanced, supple mouthfeel (I suppose less acidity), with some earthy flavor notes Very good for just drinking and not tyring to pair it with BBQ or meat or something. Under the majic $10 mark.
Notes of cassis and black cherry on the nose with lots of fresh cherry up front. The mid palate turns a bit astringent before a short to medium finish. This bottle needs to breath for a while before drinking.
Very interesting cab. Full taste with a lot of earthy flavors.
Seductive, smooth and balanced wine with shades of tar, licorice, black currant and tobacco. Wonderful finish. Doesn’t aim to be a classic, but what it does it does extremely well. Light to medium weight with fine grain tannins. Wow! What a value! 90+.

This wine has the "delicious" factor. It's very ripe and rich. Great for enjoying on its own.
This is my favorite Cab. Every time I try a new brand, I am sorry I didn't buy this one! You can't beat the price either!
