Food Pairings for Rombauer Zinfandel
I like a lot of Rombauer's wines, but this Zinfandel is closer to a dessert wine than a Zinfandel. It is extremely sweet for a red zinfandel and the winemaker's notes are off by a mile when referencing "subtle" and "nuances". Perhaps with age it would calm down, but this particular release (I've loved their other Zins) is one to avoid. The other thing that exacerbated the problems with this wine was that they reversed their tasting order at the vineyard (heavy cabs to light zin) so by the time we got to the Zin my mouth was used to the cabernet wines. Still, this wine is far too 'fruit forward' and is the sweetest zinfandel I have ever tasted in my life. I was shocked to taste it if you can't tell, and this is precisely because I have loved their other Zinfandel releases and my mind was anticipating something along the lines of what I had experienced.

Medium Bodied, lush tanins, and a nose of cherry and rosemary. A delightful, velvety mouthfeel with juicy layers of rasberry, strawberries, and plum. Medium to long finish.
External Reviews for Rombauer Zinfandel
The wine is full flavored with an abundance of fresh, dark berry fruit and hints of currants. There is a long finish to the wine that continues to reveal subtle berry fruit nuances. It drinks well now but will improve with several years of age.
Rombauer Vineyards 2006 Zinfandel represents rich, vibrant, and juicy, this wine boasts aromas of cherry and wild berry, with soft notes of black pepper. Tightly packed layers of cranberries, wild berries, and ripe cherries flow together with a touch
Wine Tasting NotesRombauer Vineyards' Zinandel represents the very essence of California Zinfandel. Full bodied, fruit forward, and juicy, this wine boasts bright aromas of black cherry and plum, with a light spicy character all it's own. Layers of cranberries, plums, and dark berries flow together for a rich, full flavor with a sensational mouth feel. A dark berry fruit finish lingers on the palate, complementing the rich flavors of this beautiful wine.
This Zinfandel is a great example of our ongoing commitment to quality vineyard selection. Handpicked Zinfandel from low yielding, old-vine blocks is harvested at optimum maturity and rushed to the winery in refrigerated trucks. At the winery we spare no effort or expense in the winemaking process to ensure quality and enjoyment. Food Pairing: Our favorite Joy of Cooking® pairings for this wine include arugula, fig and gorgonzola pizza, jerk chicken over wild rice, and cheesecake.
