I like a lot of Rombauer's wines, but this Zinfandel is closer to a dessert wine than a Zinfandel. It is extremely sweet for a red zinfandel and the winemaker's notes are off by a mile when referencing "subtle" and "nuances". Perhaps with age it would calm down, but this particular release (I've loved their other Zins) is one to avoid. The other thing that exacerbated the problems with this wine was that they reversed their tasting order at the vineyard (heavy cabs to light zin) so by the time we got to the Zin my mouth was used to the cabernet wines. Still, this wine is far too 'fruit forward' and is the sweetest zinfandel I have ever tasted in my life. I was shocked to taste it if you can't tell, and this is precisely because I have loved their other Zinfandel releases and my mind was anticipating something along the lines of what I had experienced.

I love big spicy red Zins, and I love Rombauer's other offerings; but this fruity sweet Zin is one to avoid, big time. Very disappointing.

Medium Bodied, lush tanins, and a nose of cherry and rosemary. A delightful, velvety mouthfeel with juicy layers of rasberry, strawberries, and plum. Medium to long finish.

A dark berry fruit finish lingers on the palate, complementing the rich flavors of this beautiful wine." We say - yes its FRUITY baby did we say FRUITY?! Very nice release....
