Food Pairings for Rombauer Vineyards Zinfandel California
We went shopping today and decided to have a late lunch at one of our favorite restaurants. I had a burger and the Mrs had sirloin tacos. So, we decided we would like to have some red wine. I've never had a Rombauer Zin before and this sounded intriguing. Believe me this is like no Dry Creek Valley Zin that I would normally have. Talk about upper case FRUIT--berries, figs, raisins, you pick it, along with maybe a touch of spearmint. Between all the fruit and the high alcohol (15.9% ABV) this wine is almost sweet. It is more like that Apothic stuff than any other Zin I might normally go for.
Chocolate tobacco on the nose. Sweet
Fruit forward and jammy without being too sweet.
A big massive Zin with all the elements of real Zins back in the sixties and early seventies until the overly sweet and syrupy components kicked in. Too cloying. The finish is like drinking a dessert wine. Disappointed.
Best Zin ever - rich dark fruits, not too dry.
Renee and I enjoyed this wine at Fleming s several months ago and fell in love with it.
Jammy and very round. Very lightly sweet and middle of the road pepper. Long fruity finish

Winemaker's Notes:Opening with a burst, this wine boasts aromas of blackberry and boysenberry jam. On the palate, rich, juicy fruit loaded with ripe wild berries, plum, fig and black cherry flavors. Supple tannins and smooth oak notes show in the lush, mouth-filling finish. Our favorite pairings for this wine include braised short ribs over wild mushroom risotto, pizza, and pork tenderloin.
This is rich and vibrant zin from the makers of one of California's most popular chardonnays, blending fruit from some of California's top regions for the varietal: Amador, Napa, Lake and El Dorado. Juicy aromas and flavors of wild cherries and tangy cranberries spiked with black pepper and allspice keep you intrigued from first sniff to last sip. Ripe, medium-grained tannins round out the finish.
Winemaker's Notes - Dark ruby color; rich, ripe aromas of boysenberry, raspberry and nuances of vanilla. Robust, jammy wildberry fruit flavors frame this luscious and velvety wine. Subtle tannins offer a fruit forward finish. Our favorite pairings for this wine include leg of lamb, BBQ ribs and dark chocolate.
Ripe and complex, concentrated with rich, juicy, bright plum, wild berry, black cherry and spicy, peppery notes. Impressive for its core of fruit, balanced, supple tannins and fruity aftertaste. Drink now through 2004.
Captures the essence of California Zinfandel in a ripe, fruit-driven wine filled with aromas of boysenberries, raspberries and wild berries. It's loaded with flavors of ripe, zesty wild berry and blackberry jam that picks up spicy, peppery notes. It finishes with a fantastic burst of fruit and concentrated berry flavors. Drink now or let age for 2-4 years.
Rating: 85/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the September 2010 issue. Keyed on candied blackberries in the nose and more than just a touch sweet on the palate, this sugary working wanders out of the conventional table-wine realm, yet it gets points for balance and absolute cleanliness, and those looking for the uncommon sweet red might find things to like.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.
Deep purple in color; powerful aromas of wild berries, clove and plum emerge from the glass. Luscious, juicy layers of black cherry, blackberry and boysenberry integrate with nuances of allspice and burst on the palate. Berry flavors linger for an extended finish. Favorite pairings for this wine include pasta bolognese, curry chicken, and lamb kabobs. 94% Zinfandel, 6% Petite Syrah. Alcohol 15.9%.
