Wine Advocate ReviewRated 93The backward 2004 Shiraz Heysen, aged 20 months in a combination of American and French oak, possesses a dense purple color as well as rich notes of blackberries, licorice, creosote, and camphor. This dense, full-bodied, ripe, powerful Shiraz includes 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, which is impossible to detect. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 12-15+.Wine Tasting NotesThis Shiraz grown in the Barossa Valley has been described as outstanding with ripe fruit flavors, balanced tannins and clear varietal character.

Rolf Binder is a favorite of Robert Parker who calls him “one of Australia’s finest winemakers” His single vineyard Shiraz' routinely score 90 plus point ratings. This wine is very rare indeed as it is something we are offering at OVER 40% OFF by the case. Robert Parker rated it 93+ and said “The backward 2004 Shiraz Heysen, aged 20 months in a combination of American and French oak, possesses a dense purple color as well as rich notes of blackberries, licorice, creosote, and camphor. This dense, full-bodied, ripe, powerful Shiraz includes 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, which is impossible to detect. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 12-15+.” Very Limited!

Winemaker's Notes:

Medium to deep cherry black color. Pronounced ripe aroma, a cascade of complex earth and fruits which is a welcome though unexpected shock. Lovely palate though soft and it has plenty of weight and while it drifts easily over the palate you long for a touch more tightness. Leave for a few years and try again. WA 93pts.
