Rolf Binder Shiraz Hales 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

*Five Star Winery - James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2009* Mr Rolf Binder Sr established Veritas Winery in 1955. It was his dream to make wine and he came to Australia from Hungary to fulfil that dream. This truly family owned business has continued to grow and grow and is now run by Rolf Binder, son of the founder. Rolf creates the red wine while his sister Christa makes the white wine. This unique brother and sister winemaking team have taken Rolf Binder Wines to the world. The most prized vines from Western Ridge are the old Grenache vines. The Chri Ro Estate vineyards surround the new winery. They lie on the western slopes of the valley, some of its vines include old dry grown Mataro, to the very special Hanisch vines that produces grapes with the intensity of flavour and characteristics of pepper and spice that are all part of the success of the Hanisch Shiraz. The Hales Shiraz is noted by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate as 90 points and "contains dollops of Grenache, Mataro, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Purple-colored, it offers up a bouquet of cedar, spice box, violets, plum, and blueberry. Layered, savory, and full-flavored, what it lacks in complexity, it makes up for in unadulterated pure fruit. Drink it over the next 6-8 years."

Rolf Binder Wines:
The vines in the vineyard were pruned and trellised in November (Spring), and their long shoots needed to be trained along the trellis. This was a vigorous growing time for the vines, and leading up to this vintage, we saw some of them already producing the small bunches of inflorescences (flowers) that will eventually become fruit.

Wonderful fruit, a pleasure to drink. I'd serve it any time except to the serious tannin-head
