Winemakers Notes

Founded in 1982, Roederer Estate Winery is nestled in Mendocino County's cool, fog-shrouded Anderson Valley. This is the California outpost of Champagne Louis Roederer, and the sparkling wines are produced using only Estate-grown grapes from the winery's own vineyards. L'Ermitage is Roederer Estate's special Tete de Cuvee, which has consistently been rated one of California's top sparkling wines since its debut in 1989. This cuvee is fruity with a delicate bread crust note. It has baked apple flavors and a long and round creamy finish.

Awesome vintage sparkling wine done in the classic Champagne style. Rich and creamy with nice toastyness. As I like to say yumtastic. Unlike some champagne the acidity is completely in balance with the rest of the wine. Want to see how this wine will age.

One of the best US sparklers I've had in terms of complexity and finesse. Aromas of hay lead to a palate of creamy lemon, mineral and apple. Very nicely balanced, with small bead and creamy mousse.

93 PTS WILFRED WONG. A beautifully refined effort, the stylish and youthful '00 Roederer Estate L'Ermitage begins with a steady mousse of roasted almonds and ripe apples; finishes fresh and crisp.

Winemaker's notes: The color of the 1999 L'Ermitage is a nice yellow with golden hues highlighting the tiny bubbles and long lasting foam. On the nose there are subtle notes of quince jam and honey intermingled with licorice and white flowers. The palate is creamy with soft floral and honey accents. The 1999 L'Ermitage is a lively and elegant wine with an excellent balance of fruit and acidity.

Blend: 53% Chardonnay, 47% Pinot Noir, 3.5% aged reserve L'Ermitage is Roederer Estate's special Tête de Cuvee, which has consistently been rated one of California's top sparkling wines since its debut in 1989. As in Champagne, L'Ermitage is made only in exceptional years, of pre-selected grapes that come from only the very best lots. Fine tiny bubbles and a long lasting mousse are the usual footprints of the L'Ermitage cuvee. This cuvee of the Millenium is fruity (apple, peach) with a delicate bread crust note. Mouth feel is on well balanced wine with baked apple flavors and a long and round creamy finish.
