What to Expect

California has long struggled with Pinot Noir. Finding the right vineyards for this most fickle of grape, one that enjoys a cool growing season yet needs warmth close to harvest to fully ripen, has proven a challenge in such a sunny state. Cooler areas eventually became identified; the Santa Rita Hills, Russian River Valley and Mendocino's Anderson valley are all prime spots for Pinot Noir in California. Unlike the lighter colored and sometimes delicate Pinots of Burgundy, California produces many rich, deep Pinots full of slightly chewy dark berry and cherry fruits with hints of cola, Asian spices and forest floor frequently adding complexity.

Winemakers Notes

One of the best Bruts made in America. Combines the opulence of new world fruit with the finesses of French winemaking. Roederer Estate Brut is made from 100% estate grapes grown in Northern California's cool Anderson Valley. In true Roederer style, this blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir is selected from their reserve wines and is oak aged. Light gold with coppery tinges, the Roederer Estate Brut is unusually complex for a California sparkler. Beautifully balanced, the wine has a creamy mouth feel and long, elegant finish.

You?d almost think you were drinking fine Champagne when you sip this intricate bubbly, which, after all, is owned by a French Champagne house. It?s dry and yeasty, with suble citrus flavors and an aftertaste of almond skin. Feels fine and elegant on the palate.

Wine Skinny

Creamy, spicy and always a good bet, this is a standard favorite around here. Rich ripe fruit flavors, fresh and lingering on the finish, with a pretty character to match the pretty pricetag. Ready to drink now.

Pale yellow color in the glass. Notes of green apples with just a touch of mineral. Fine mousse. There is an acidic undertone but it is not overly prominent. This wine was dry but not exceptionally so.

Fresh and vibrant, with a tight beam of citrus, black cherry and wild berry fruit that's clean and refreshing. The Wine Spectator "A subtle, toasty blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, it exudes egalite because it is the equal of many French Champagnes...." Howard Goldberg, The New York Times, 6/25/2006.
