Lots of oak on the nose here, smoky, toasty and cedary, though there is a nice base of strawberry/black berry fruit to support it. This is very smooth on entry, but bright with juicy acids, helping to perk up the core of brambly blackberry fruit. The oak is not shy on the plate either, and while the fruit keeps up, it’s a tight race, making this a wine for people who dig vanilla, spice and chocolate notes as much as fruit. The finish is packed with chocolate and a little alcoholic burn, making this somewhat reminiscent of a spiced rum cake. 88pts
Sweetly earthy like an old pipe with rather intense, spicy red fruits and a dusty, lightly peppery/white pepper quality with background notes of sassafras. Smells balanced and fresh. Really nicely balanced on entry with sweet fresh berry fruit supported by bright acids and moderate yet very well proportioned tannins. There’s a background fudgy tone that adds depth but this is really all about the bright, fresh fruit. Rich and exuberant! A lightly herbaceous, forest floor note on the finish with a lovely spice tone refreshes the palate. Very nice middle of the road Zin. 90pts

Add your reviewdrinking this on the coldest night of the year and it warms me right up. needed about an hour to open up but it is just perfect with pizza. nice contained fruit bomb with a great raspberry finish.
Still drinking very well in 2010. Like aronowm2 says, it pairs well with pizza. Good fruit without undue sweetness.
