Fairly oaky and tight on the nose with dark currant and plum fruit over cigar box and caramel aromas topped by hints of minty herbs and ash. Nicely textured in the mouth, this is soft and smooth with a firm backbone of tannins. The flavors today run toward the oaky end of the spectrum, with spicy wood, vanilla and toast notes throughout the palate, but the underlying fruit is black curranty and dark, slight dried fruit notes sits at the wine's core. The back end shows more tannin, which surprisingly lifts on the finish revealing more depth of fruit and spicy notes on the finale. Fairly large scaled, this needs some time to unwind but should open nicely given 1-3 years in the cellar. 91pts

85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec, 3% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petite Verdot Toasty wood, carob, caramel, dried chili and a hint of dill frame the dark black raspberry black berry fruit on the nose. This lacks some integration in the mouth, with lots of sweet fruit seemingly separate from the assertive toasty oak. There’s a deep herbal, grassy vegetal component on the palate, which clashes with the sweetness here. Lots of wood tannin is drying as well but the sweetness of the fruit just barely saves the palate, though the finish is dominated by drying tannins and is short and reminiscent of coffee grinds. This is massively constructed and a wine for optimists. It’s complex and packed with extract but that comes with the price of it being massively tannic. 88pts

Powerful, Delicious Alexander Valley Blend Tasted February 2011 Dark purple color, totally opaque except at the edges. Sweet, jammy bouquet with a touch of smoke. Smooth, thick, and juicy body at first, but solid structure is provided by moderate oak and a surprising amount of acidity for a red wine. On the second day of tasting, the body had lightened to a medium-weight. Tasted on its own, the Bordeaux blend offers spicy nutmeg and cloves along with the fruitiness of blackberry preserves and raisins. Tasting the first day the dark fruit flavors dominated. The second day revealed spices and some hints of leather. Tasted with ham, the pungent alcohol flavors come forward to balance the fattiness of the meat in a pleasant way. (ABV is a heady 15.1%). Aftertaste with food is flinty – interesting for such a substantial cab blend. Aftertaste with a clean palate is reminiscent of canned vegetables with another heavy dose of alcohol. Knowing the wine is from Alexander Valley, I expected a concentrated, substantial, delicious wine and was not disappointed. This particular blend includes Malbec, Merlot, Cab Franc, and Petit Verdot. The blend seems to lighten the wine (as compared to an Alex Valley pure Cab) and add some more complex notes. My only criticism is the alcohol level is higher than I would consider ideal, making it a little difficult to drink without food. review remains the property of C. Elliot

Wow! Big, bold, yet elegant. Deep garnet and very rich on sight. On the nose, ripe black fruit, dried plums, violets, tobacco, and petrol. Full bodied over the palate with a perfect combo of silkiness and grip. Flavors of black currant, black brier fruit, eucalyptus, and cedar. On my second sip, the wine became more complex showing dried cranberry and a hint of mushroom on a lingering, mouth watering finish. I did not decant this wine tonight but did use a Vinturi while pouring into my glass. It paired wonderfully with our grilled steaks tonight! It would also pair well with a rich filet mignon, a spicy leg of lamb, pasta with a tomato based meat sauce, and medium to strong cheeses. I spoil myself once a month with what I consider to be an elite wine and this was July's choice. A great balance of dark fruit, herb, and tannins. This wine is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon with some Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. I think the 2007 Rodney Strong Meritage "Symmetry" Alexander Valley deserves a 93 point rating! It is lush, elegant, and very enjoyable. If you have a 2007 vintage of this wine, you can drink now or hold up through 2016. WineSplashing!!

A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec, 3% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Very deep purple in color with complex aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, cigar box, sage and black licorice. Bold and rich blackcurrant and blackberry flavors with cassis and black pepper finishing with toasty oak and firm tannins. Decant for 2-3 hours now or put in the cellar for 5-7 years. Delicious, if a bit over-oaked, at this point but I expect this to integrate as it ages.

I tried this at the Vancouver Wine Festival and have always remembered the amazing taste. Of course, by the time I got to the shop, it was all sold out.

Dense and chewy, showing dark and red berry fruit, with notes of red and black licorice and a firm wall of ripe, chewy tannins. The fruit pushes through. Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2014 through 2024. 3,936 cases made. -JL A lush, complex wine, based on Cabernet Sauvignon and including all of the classic Bordeaux varieties. It's softly tannic and slightly herbal in the Alexander Valley way, with savory black cherry, cherry liqueur, cocoa and oak flavors. Always one the top Meritage wines produced in California, and Rodney Strong's flagship, Symmetry is a wine whose name sums up what it's all about. All five Bordeaux varietals are combined in a beautifully symmetrical blend. This 2008 is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec, 7% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. The wine was aged for 21 months in 100% French oak barrels. The best lots of Caberenet Sauvignon and the other 5 Bordeaux varietals are selected from Strong's prime vineyards in Alexander Valley. The Symmetry facility is truly state of the art, with small tanks and equipment sized for the most discriminating vineyard selection process. Under the direction of consulting winemaker David Ramey, they employ cutting edge techniques such as cluster pre-sorting, berry sorting and extended maceration. The wine shows the forward richness that is the hallmark of Alexander Valley reds, with bold structure for aging. A truly compelling wine. Grab it while it's On Sale!
