Rodney Strong Chardonnay Sonoma County 2012
Editorial Reviews for Rodney Strong Chardonnay Sonoma County
Full and rich on the nose with green apple, Meyer lemon and vanilla wrapped in rolled oats. In the mouth it's smooth and creamy, full of green apple, kiwi and lemon flavors with puckering acidity on the sides of the palate and a touch of cream on the finish.
Full and creamy lemon aromas are pronounced and joined by green apple and butter. Dried apricot flavors on the palate match with the green apple, and there's plenty of cream here for lovers of buttery Chardonnay. Classic and well made. 88 pts
Green apples and grapefruit. Touch of oak on the finish. Would buy again but wouldn't search it out.
Great chard for the price. Nice balance with a touch of oak.
slight hint of butter after decanting, mild citrus, smooth,
Nice, tasty oaky chardonnay. Very silky mouthfeel with a pleasant creaminess. Lots of oak, vanilla and cinammon notes throughout. Spiced red apple cider flavors on the finish.
Heavy heavy butter. Poor finish.

This wine exhibits all the positive attributes of barrel fermentation — a fullness of aroma, creamy texture and layers of complexity not often found at this price point. While there’s a taste of richness the wine actually drinks lean, an exploration of Gravenstein apple and pear between swipes of lemon curd on toast.
We barrel fermented 60% of this wine and aged that portion in barrel for six months, offering the wine a touch of brown spice and vanilla, while cold fermenting the remainder to maximize a fresh fruit-forward character. Bright lemon and apple aromas mingle with hints of toasty barrel complexity, and on the palate, pear and pineapple with spice and refreshing acidity will have you coming back for another glass. Enjoy this lively Chardonnay now and over the next couple of years.

Barrel fermentation in new and seasoned French oak added toasty vanilla and spice complexities. Creamy and rich on the palate. Encouraging secondary fermentation adds additional complexity, and in the glass the wine is both creamy and crisp, with ripe apple, Meyer lemon, wet stone, and spiced vanilla flavors.

A perfect example of Sonoma Chardonnay, full of bright peach fruit, crisp, lively and smooth. Hard to believe that one can still find good Sonoma Chard at this price!
