Deep and richly fruited this is dripping with plum jam, cassis, bramble, jalepeno jelly and sweet baking spice tones. The herbal and oak tones gain the upper hand here with some pine and green tomato tones but this remains attractive on the nose. Apon opening this is lovely in the mouth with tons of ripe fruit tannins, fine acidity and good density that is just a touch chewy. Perhaps a touch monolithic today and while the acidity begins to be more apparent this retains good harmony in the mouth. It’s pure cassis, olive and bitter spice notes on the backend and the finish as classic Cabernet. Elegant yet intense. 90pts
My Rating 88: This wine is extremely dry with not much body behind it. The overwhelming feature is a strong oak component that shines through in taste and nose. I personally think the wine maker went overboard with the oak chips he put into the barrels. With out the oak the wine would rate somewhat lower

Casis and smoke. We have a case of this laying around and last night I decided to take one out. Great nose, smokey taste and a long finish.
Not to shabby
This is a well balanced, full bodied wine. Heavy hitting at 14.9% abv, the nose is intense with hints of black fruit and mocha. Pleasant and persistent finish. I would highly recommend this wine for consumption now, or for a few years down the road.

The core flavors of this Cabernet are blackberry, red currant and fresh earth, with accented scents of mint and herbs. Due to ageing in French oak, this Bordeaux style Cabernet has a subtle toasty spice component, and is a very round, soft and elegant wine.

Rodney Strong Cab Reserve is the winemaker’s careful blend of individual wines made from time tested, meticulously farmed sections of some of the very best vineyards in Alexander Valley. Select areas within each vineyard are hand harvested individually, fermented separately, and aged in the finest French oak barrels. After about six months, each lot is tasted and graded, and only the highest graded wines that display depth, concentration, and age worthiness are considered for Reserve Cabernet. The blend is then assembled, and the wine is returned to barrels to facilitate flavor integration. The wine is aged an additional 12 to 18 months.
