Editorial Reviews for Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County
This is smoky and herbal with notes of old leather, cigarette ash, cigarette smoke, tomato leaf, tomato, and cassis on the nose. It’s fairly typical Sonoma Cabernet. On entry this is light bodied and soft with plenty of woody tannins and spice notes up front. The acidity is a hint low and the fruit is a bit roasted and fairly dark if low intensity on the mid-palate though with a nice black currant edge. The finish, which shows plenty of toasty oak, is a bit brighter with crisp tannins that add a bit of refreshment to this solid, middleweight Cab. 86pts

Add your reviewThis wine was a surprise at the Country Kitchen one of the oldest and finest steakhouse restaurants in Portland, Oregon. We didn't expect much, but got so much more. We ordered this wine to go with our Porterhouse Steaks and it was really excellent. Nose of cassis and spice. The taste was that of rich dark fruit . The wood tannins were mellow to medium with a nice soft spice then a hint of vanilla, the smokey finish was quite pleasant. For the price under $15 in the store but more in a fine restaurant this is an excellent medium bodied Cabernet. For the home, this is the one to stock up on and have a few bottles in the winerack for the times you grill red meat for friends or make that Sunday roast.
Full body mix of ruch plum and prunes. A good balance. The wife liked it too. She kept saying 'wow' all through dinner.
Lovely wine. Just like the label says, it has chocolate and blackberry flavors and finished off with soft tannins.
My first Cab and was impressed. Looking for more like this to get away from my comfort zone of Merlot's. Any recommendations?

Rating: 85/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. If showing fairly clear-cut Cabernet character with very proper blackcurrant fruit leading the way in the nose, this bottling fails to follow through on the palate and lacks the fruity stuffing to stave off a rush of hard-charging tannin. It is a little too gruff and dry for its own good at this point, and it makes no promises that it will get markedly better with age.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Cellar for future drinking. Wine will improve with bottle aging.

Modestly proportioned, with an earthy, cedary accent to the moderate currant and berry notes.
A very nice Cabernet, and in its own way, classic Alexander Valley. Well-ripened black currant fruit is dry, with soft but lithe tannins and gentle acids. Despite the softness, the wine has a good, firm mouthfeel, and quite a bit of richness and depth.
Features herbal, earthy flavors, wit blackberry notes peeking through. Ripe-textured, and the flavors linger. Drink now through 2005.
Winemaker's Notes:
Wine Tasting Notes Aromas of blackberry, cocoa, and cedar lead to a rich, layered mouthfeel, replete with black cherry, vanilla, and cassis, and structured with lush, mature tannins.
