The creation of Roco wines is the result of twenty years of dreaming, research, and planning. In 1987, the same year Rollin Soles began to develop the prestigious Argyle Winery, he also purchased a unique hillside property in the Chehalem Mountain Range. Yet, it was not until 2001 that Rollin and his wife Corby planted the hillside to Pinot Noir, and in 2003 announced the fruit of their long held vision, Roco wines (pronounced rock-oh). The result is a vineyard and wines that reflect the very best distillation of Rollin's 20 years of Oregon viticultural learning and the property's special characteristics. The Soles' small Wits' End Vineyard is situated on the southern slopes of the Chehalem Mountain Range, approximately six miles from the small town of Newberg in Yamhill County. The site is superbly located. In the winter the Chehalem Mountains protect the vineyard from the northeast Arctic winds, and in the summer the Dundee Hills (to the south) transition the Pacific Ocean winds into gentle afternoon breezes. The vineyard was planted to a high plant density (2,200 vines per acre) on devigorated rootstocks with what Rollin considers "the three sexiest Dijon Pinot Noir clones available". Further, the vineyard is enhanced by the unusual presence of two, year-round springs. The private, cloistered nature and tranquility of the site flows into the essence of the wine. From this seven-acre vineyard the Soles' produce a limited wine allocation for their family and friends, but are willing to share a small amount with true Pinot lovers each year. Read less

this is just as good as their private stash at half the price. I love this price point which is extremely reasonable for Oregon Pinot.

I'd like to add this to my private stash. Another excellent Oregon Pinot. It loses point because of the ridiculous price point. $55 is a little much. Oregon prices are seriously out of control in this economy.

Beautiful nose of cherry and violets. Vibrant, clean and rich fruit. Very fruity, yet balanced and not cloying. A really nice wine.

Good Pinot, but flavor profile is limited and a bit dull for our tastes. A bit of a let-down for us after the big recommendation from the wine-store.

Wondered about the higher price for the Stash over the Willamette Valley, but worth the venture. This single vineyard wine has great depth and complexity stacked on top of the full flavor. Drinking the ROCO 07 PS now... will cellar some of the 08.

The 2008 Pinot Noir Private Stash is a bit more deeply colored, displays greater depth and concentration, and has enough structure to blossom for another 3-4 years. Mouth-filling and succulent, this lengthy, pleasure-bent effort will offer a drinking... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A Pinot Noir wine from Oregon in USA. 2008 Roco Pinot Noir Private Stash 750ml

The 2006 Pinot Noir is a blend of estate fruit from Chehalem Mountains and fruit from Dundee Hills. Dark ruby-colored, it has an expressive bouquet of spice box, earth notes, cherry, and raspberry. This is followed by a medium- to full-bodied wine with layers of savory, spicy red fruits, excellent balance, and a lengthy finish.

The terroir-driven 2007 Pinot Noir is medium ruby-colored with an alluring bouquet of spice box, smoke, earth notes, cherry, and raspberry. Sweetly-fruited and medium-bodied on the palate, it is a juicy, balanced, easy-going effort for drinking over the next 5 years. The French would call it a andldquo;vin de plaisirandrdquo;. Rocco is the personal project of veteran vigneron Rollin Soles, the artistic director of Argyle.

Supple, silky and remarkably open-textured, this just glows with beautiful plum, currant and a hint of lime in the background, delicately framed with oak. The fruit wins in the end, and this lingers for days. Drink now through 2016.

Deep red. Seductive perfume of red and dark berry preserves, Asian spices, anise and dried rose. Medium-bodied black raspberry and candied cherry flavors stain the palate, complemented by floral pastille and cinnamon qualities. The spiciness builds on the finish, which is pure, focused and very long. This is a side project of Rollin Soles, Argylersquo;s winemaker, and his wife Corby.
