Rocky Creek Winery Pinot Gris 2011

Member Review by JenniferT:

I never would have guessed this is a pinot gris - it isn't so clean and austere, but rather has much more going on. (I guessed it was a gewurtzraminer). Plus it's pink, like a rose! According to the winemakers website, the contact with the skins imparts weight/mouth feel along with the salmon color. It is a very aromatic wine - the nose smells like tropical fruit/pineapple with sweet ripe peach and maybe some vanilla. It is a little different on the palate...more tart and acidic than the nose suggests, with notes of peaches, citrus, and green apple. It is tangy and mildly acidic over the moderately (surprisingly) long finish. A real surprise for Vancouver Island, British Columbia!
