So we had lamb steaks this week instead of chops. A little fattier. This was the perfect wine to peel the fat off your teeth. Tannic? Opaque? Deep? All that. Cooled it down--hey, summer finally came and it was in the house where it's more than balmy--and it was just perfect. Clay Mauritson, if you're reading this, don't pull these vines. It's a Calif treasure. The Zins at Rockpile are special, but save a little room for this ignored grape. Those of us who know... well, we know.
