Rockford is a winery led by former Chateau Tanunda winemaker Robert “Rocky” O’Callaghan, based in the Barossa Valley, Australia. The wines have developed a huge following, known for their traditional methods and balanced styles. Some of the wines such as the Basket Press Shiraz, sold at the winery only, are in high demand and difficult to obtain, especially outside of Australia.
Four and a half glasses
Had paired with steak in Sydney, and although possibly influenced by an incredible meal, I loved this big and fruity wine. The whole package - isn't that part of it??
the 1998 made this wine and is the best to date. Im down to my last two, In a blind tasting with grange 1996, three of the five prefered the rockford
In early June I visited the cellar door expecting to taste such a great wine. Unfortunately I found the 2006 very disappointing. Further research shows that the Basket Press can be eratic for different vintages. Some are great and this is where the reputation comes from. Unfortunately all the group I was with expected something magical, but all we got was an average shiraz.
