Rochioli Estate Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

Bright ruby-red. Intense, spice- and floral-accented aromas of candied red fruits, with a hint of smokiness in the background. Taut and focused on the palate, offering lively strawberry and raspberry flavors that gain weight with aeration. Closes on a sweet note, with very soft tannins and lingering berry and rose notes...90" IWC 6/13 "The 2011 Pinot Noir Estate is fleshy, seductive and quite pretty. Freshly cut flowers, dark red cherries, mint and anise are nicely balanced. A vinous, inviting Pinot, the 2011 is best suited for drinking over the next few years. There is a tremendous amount of early appeal here. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018...90" WA 4/13 "Tom Rochioli describes 2011 as a cold vintage with lower ripeness and alcohol levels than the norm. Considering these are usually fairly rich, bold wines (the style Rochioli prefers), the combination of a cooler year and the inherent depth that is the house signature is particularly appealing.

With three generations of dedication to the land, Rochioli Vineyards and Winery has earned the reputation as one of Sonoma County's finest wineries. This family legacy began in 1938, when Joe Rochioli Sr. purchased land he had long farmed. He had the foresight to know that the soil of the Russian River Valley would one day produce some of the world's greatest wines. His son Joe Jr. embraced this vision and today craft renowned, terrior-driven wines built on a foundation of superb fruit. The result has been a decades-long tradition of outstanding vintages: Silky-smooth, fruit-forward Pinot Noirs; rich, opulent Chardonnays; and tangy, food-friendly Sauvignon Blancs. Always in demand, always revered and always rated among the best varietals to be sought anywhere in the world. This commitment to quality is unwavering and our promise to everyone who uncorks a bottle of our wine. Read less
