Rocca di Frassinello le Sughere di Frassinello IGT 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

A wine of great character. Deep ruby red in color, with good berry fruit and floral notes, hints of minerals, and nice elegant spicy tones. Medium-bodied, with fine, velvety tannins and a medium-to-long finish. Wine suitable for ageing, but so very pleasant due to the soft tannins that it can also be drunk young. It pairs well with all red meat dishes and mature cheeses. 50% Sangioveto, 25% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon.

A wine of serious character. Drinking fantastic right now. One of those kind of wines I wish there was a perfume for...Beautiful aromas, super sexy texture, silky tannins. Bravo...get me some more!

Ruby-red. Pungent oak spices, black cherry, cocoa and sweet pipe tobacco on the very pure nose. Silky and opulent in the mouth, with jammy dark cherry and chocolate flavors. Impressively dense, lush and long, with a strong repeating note of cocoa on the finish. Excellent for a wine thatandrsquo;s not the estateandrsquo;s flagship bottling.

The 2009 Le Sughere di Frassinello is simply dazzling in this vintage. Expressive floral notes are woven throughout a fabric of vibrant dark fruit in this intense, supple red. Racy and expressive from start to finish, the wine impresses for its fabulous harmony and ripe, explosive finish. Le Sughere is best described as the estateandrsquo;s second label. It is a 50% Sangioveto, 25% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 12 months in French oak, 50% new. Anticipated maturity: 2012andndash;2021.

The 2004 Sughere di Frassinello (50% Sangioveto, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot) is a plump, juicy effort. Fresh and vinous on the nose, it offers attractive super-sweet dark fruit and toasted oak notes on a medium bodied frame with a long finish and a soft, accessible personality. A slight note of greenness keeps the score from going higher. Anticipated maturity: 2007ndash;2014.

93 Points - Wine Advocate"The 2008 Le Sughere di Frassinello is 50% Sangioveto, 25% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon. This is one of the more refined, elegant wines I have tasted from this emerging property in Gavorrano. Layers of ripe dark fruit emerge in a silky, refined style that is utterly irresistible. Mint, flowers and spices follow, adding further complexity, while a final burst of juiciness has the last say on the finish. This isnt the biggest wine Rocca di Frassinello has made, but I am deeply impressed by the classiness and length of the regal finish. As always, I recommend the estates wines be opened at least 30 minutes in advance, which seems to help the aromatics of these wines find their center." -October 2010

The 2005 Le Sughere di Frassinello possesses an added dimension of weight in its dark cherry, plum, licorice, leather, smoke and earthy flavors. This medium to full-bodied red offers excellent length although the tannins dry out a bit on the finish as the wine lacks a little stuffing on the mid-palate. Still, this is a strong effort that bodes very well for the future. Le Sughere di Frassinello is 50% Sangioveto, 25% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon. Anticipated maturity: 2009ndash;2017.
