Rocca Delle Macie Chianti Classico Tenuta Sant'Alfonso 2014

Member Review by rckr1951:

Well done. Starwberries and cherries dominate the nose with black currant, earth and oak filling in. Medium chewy tannins meld with balanced acidity to give this mouthwatering and lingering aftertaste. Drink now - Paul 90 points

Rocca Delle Macie is a celebrated producer of Chianti Classico and this wine is one of the winery's most well-established. With a renewed focus in Chianti on single vineyard cultivation, this wine takes on greater importance. 100% Sangiovese grapes sourced exclusively from the Sant'Alfonso estate vineyard, where extensive studies and experiments revealed that the most clay-rich and least gravelly soils of this estate, combined with the use of specific clones of Sangiovese, yielded grapes with a higher concentration of polyphenols and aromatic components. The result is an opulent, juicy Chianti Classico with a unique expression. It has an intense nose with pronounced aromas of ripe red fruit and spices. The palate is warm and smooth with excellent balance and structure. Decanter Magazine scored it 90 points saying "Sweet plum and a hint of beetroot on the nose. Still oaky on the palate and a long finish with lots of sweet berry fruit and an attractive, juicy freshness. Modern, fruit-driven style." On Sale!!!
