You who've turned your backs on the notion of vintage variation, lulled into complacency by Californian luck, Australian regularity, Chilean reliability - WAKE UP! Taste what a difference a date makes. The 1997 harvest was the best in years for nearly all of Italy, but nowhere are the wines more impressive than in Tuscany. This excellent Chianti exceeds the quality of a Riserva from a typical year, with a dense and luscious texture full of cherry, mulberry, and plum flavors, hints of anise, cinnamon, and clove, and long and velvety finish. Admirable for its concentration and balance.

Medium- to full-bodied, with ripe plum, cedar and mushroom up front. Quite toasty on the palate, with polished tannins. Well-done. Best after 2002.
