Robert Sinskey Vineyards Pinot Noir Carneros Vandal Vineyard 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

2005 Robert Sinskey Pinot Noir Los Carneros A gem-like ruby color emanates from the glass with distinctive clarity and brilliance. By the time the glass is lifted, the aroma meets you halfway with the declaration that it couldn't be anything but Pinot Noir and breeds suspicion of a young Burgundy, but as the glass draws close, the effusive aromatics hint of newer worlds. The flavors and aromatics of the wine lean toward the exotic, reminiscent of a newly opened jar of five spice, backed by flats of raspberries, cherries and tilled earth. A sip wraps these aromas in a taut, silky texture that slowly evolves as the evening lingers over great food and inspired conversation. This is a california wine.

To taste an RSV wine at home or in a restaurant is a good thing; however, to experience a flight of RSV wines, in the place they were made, can be a very enlightening experience. Find out why RSV was named Sunset magazine’s tasting room of the year and the Wine Spectator featured it as a must visit winery in Napa Valley. But don’t take their word for it, come see it yourself. Great wine is about good food and good people. You will find all that and more at RSV. Requests for tours are tentative until confirmed via email or phone. Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Mellow and not overly oaky. Well integrated tannens on this one -- smooth but not plain. I'm happy with this pinot.

Bright soft fruits (cherry and raspberry) - rather light and fruit forward. Very new world style - no barnyard notes in this wine. Some soft tannins, very drinkable. A nice gentle finish. Great nose of cherry, raspberries and soft spices...

A great example of a carneros pinot. Intense red color and a hard raspberry candy nose. I couldn't stop swirling and smelling this one. Spicy and fruity. A memorable bottle.

I was happy to find this in a small wine shop in Destin. Love the slight effervescence, pale pink color and delicate melon nose. This is a perfect summer wine.

Bought this at the winery. An absolute gem of a wine that is long on lovely fruit character, finesse and structure. Flies in the face of over-wrought CA Pinot...

Robert Sinskey is a trailblazer on the winemaking front in northern California. All of his vineyards are farmed organically, and the Vandal Vineyard is no exception. Near the city limits of Napa, the Vandal vineyard produces deep lush Pinots that show wild, brambly fruit with mocha, clove, and spice undercurrents. Drink now, or hold on to this baby for 5 years.
