Very dark and cola-scented with noticeable alcohol, gentle herb notes, some distinct nutmeg tones and baked black cherry fruit. On entry this is rich and voluptuous with tons of sweet black cherry fruit and a touch of baking spices. The acids are well integrated and the tannins give a very lightly dusty feel to the mid-palate. The wine has some attractive herbal nuances on the mid-palate, with a hint of citrus peel popping out toward the backend. The finish is a bit short but this is holding its alcohol very well. A rich, dense style of Pinot that many will enjoy but it lacks the elegance of Pinot Noir. 88pts

Not too bad
Luscious and balanced, cherry nose with hints of truffles. Round in the mouth with long finish. A great expression of Carneros Pinot Noir.

Mondavi's Carneros Pinot Noir has been dependable for years, and this one continues the tradition. It's dry and balanced, with cherry, cola, coffee and herb flavors, and has the silky tannins and crisp acids you want in a Pinot.
A touch earthy and leathery, but the texture is smooth and polished, and the hints of dried cherries and berry are appealing, have some nuance. Finishes with mild tannins. Drink now through 2001.
Robed in deep color, this Pinot Noir opens with the intense aromas of dark fruits - black cherries and plums - that echo on the palate. Well integrated acids bring a measure of vibrancy to the lush, fleshy texture, and fine-grained tannins lend structure into the smooth, lingering finish.
Good bright ruby-red. Lively aromas of black cherry, strawberry, flowers, flint and minerals. Dense, fresh and sappy, with pure black fruit flavors given shape by harmonious acidity and lifted by a strong floral element. Offers a lovely restrained sweetness and terrific freshness.
